Invite Your Friends to Holy Week Events

I am more and more impressed with the way the students in 2PC’s senior high ministry are living out their calling to love the world. Recently, two of these students (whose families do not attend Second Pres) were baptized, and during the new members’ class, both of them mentioned that their best friends were 2PC students who had invited them to church. Baptizing them gave me (and them, I hope!) great joy! Other folks in that class also came because family members or friends had invited them.

Let Your Light Shine! 2010 Capital Campaign

2PC’s journey through the Bible in 2010 continues Sunday, February 28, with the story of the Israelites crossing the Jordan and entering the Promised Land. The Israelites marked this momentous occasion by building an altar of twelve stones to remind them of God’s good and faithful work in bringing them to the Promised Land.

This God who was so faithful to the Israelites is still at work in our world and is faithful to us today. We trust and rely on that faithfulness today as we look ahead to the 2010 Capital Campaign—Let Your Light Shine—which will begin after Easter.

New Session Teams

Two years ago, the Long Range Planning Team produced a fruitful restructuring of 2PC’s Session (the main governing body of the church). After two years of ministry with this new structure, Session voted in late 2009 to make some adjustments in order to strengthen Second Pres’ leadership. Here are the adjustments that were made:

Ash Wednesday and Lent at 2PC

This Wednesday begins Lent, the period of 40 days in which Christians try to turn themselves inward and consider the magnitude of our sin and the magnitude of God’s forgiveness for us. Lent is a great way to prepare for Holy Week, when we celebrate Christ’s triumphant march into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the last supper on Maundy Thursday, his crucifixion on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter morning.

2010's Strong Start

2010’s theme at Second Pres is Learn the Word. Love the World., and I have been so excited by the ways that we are already embracing this theme. We have a lot to celebrate already!
