Membership Exploration Course
Whether you've been visiting Second Pres for a while and want to make it your church home, or are wondering why anyone would join a church in the first place, you're invited to the upcoming Membership Exploration Course. The course is required to become a 2PC member, but more importantly, it's an opportunity to learn about church membership, to be introduced to 2PC's vision by the pastoral staff and to get to know other people that are interested in joining 2PC. There is a kickoff dinner on Thursday, Feb. 18, followed by a class on Saturday, Feb. 20. On Sunday, Feb. 21, new members are introduced to the congregation during services. Childcare and meals are provided. Please email tiffany.ward@secondpres.info to register for the class or with questions. You can also go online to www.secondpres.info/membership for more information.
Meet the Deacons
Please join us on February 14 from 10-11am in the Fellowship Hall to Meet the Deacons! The Deacon Parish Plan kicked off in 2009, and we're excited to begin expanding the network of caring. Stop by to meet your Second Presbyterian Church Deacons and have some refreshments. Sign-up cards will be available that day if you would like to be added to a Parish.
Everyone's Invited
The Souper Bowl of Caring (2/7)
Turn Super Bowl Sunday into a great day to love the world! 2PC.YM is hosting the Souper Bowl of Caring, a program designed to fight hunger and poverty in local communities. Visit www.souperbowl.org for more information. 2PC.YM will collect a small cash donation ($1 or $2 per person is the suggested donation) following the services on Sunday. The collected donation will be given to Jesus Coffee House. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Community Outreach Dinner (2/7)
Community Outreach Dinner (COD) is a monthly tradition at 2PC. It is designed to bring the entire 2PC community together and is a great time to invite new people to 2PC! Dinner is served from 11am-1pm in F100A. Tickets are $6 (available at the Welcome Center or front desk) and $2 of the cost is used to fund tickets for 2PC's community partners. There is also a $22 maximum for families.
Mission Opportunities Far and Near
Want to get involved in the mission of Second Presbyterian Church? Here are two current opportunities to help you better love the world:
- Feed the Hungry Food Drive--help us collect 3500 items for the Western Avenue Community Center food pantry. Grab a grocery bag from the Chancel in the Sanctuary, or bring in your own items. Recommended items include dry and canned beans, hot and cold cereals, macaroni and cheese, pasta and pasta sauce, dry milk, rice and canned fruit.
- Chiapas, Mexico Mission--come to the informational meeting today at noon in the parlor (F202) and learn about 2PC's trip to Chiapas from May 29-June 5. We will be completing light construction at the local medical clinic, and will be doing outreach events in the Ocosingo area. For more info, call Laurie Sprague at 275-8546.
Adult Events
Blood Drive (2/10)
50% of the population is eligible to donate blood, yet less than 5% actually donate. Why? Because they've never been asked. Consider yourself invited to donate blood on Wednesday, February 10 at 2PC anytime between 2 -7pm. Sign up for a time at the Welcome Center between Sunday services and look forward to the satisfaction of saving up to three lives with the blood you will donate. Chef Paul's homemade chicken noodle soup and biscuits will be available to donors.
JOY Program (2/12)
Come celebrate “Abe's” birthday! Both Abe and Mary Todd Lincoln will be in attendance and Gary and Carol Simpkins will present. Punch will be served at 10:30am and the program will begin at 11am. Those interested in staying for the 12pm Friday Prayer Lunch should RSVP to Kim Pare at 828.6297.
Heart of Faith Gala (2/13)
Join Faith in Action for a night of fun at the Parke Hotel and Conference Center! The Heart of Faith Gala will include a performance from Acafellaz, dinner, a cash bar and a silent auction. The cost is $50 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Faith in Action programs. For reservations, please call 827.7780.
All-Church Study: Discover Your Spiritual Gifts (Starts 2/21)
For the six Sundays in Lent, beginning February 21, 2PC will offer an all-church study during the Christian Education (CE) hour on the topic of spiritual gifts. This will help us put into action how we can learn the word and love the world. We will be using the book, Discover Your Gifts And Learn How to Use Them by Alvin J. Vander Griend. This study will be led by the small group ministry, the volunteer ministry and adult CE. Registration for this event is going on now in the South entry. Please contact Sue or Barby at sue.taulbee@secondpres.info or barby.pratt-mecherle@secondpres.info with questions.

Super Bowl Party (2/7)
Are you ready to touchdown for football, food and fun? This February's BIG event is a Super Bowl party and all high school students and their friends are invited! The party starts at 5pm on Sunday at the Secord house (5 London Ct., Bloomington 61704).
Love, Sex and Magic Series (Going on this month)
Junior high and high school students are encouraged to attend the Love, Sex and Magic Series at 2PC. We will discuss the challenges that students face with regard to love, sex and dating. These topics are too much to handle alone, and 2PC wants to help equip students for the challenges they face. High school students will go through this series during fellowship on February 14, 21, and 28 from 5-7pm. Junior high students will go through the series during Powerhouse on February 10 and 24. Please email
janice.bauder@secondpres.info with questions or concerns.

Skills desired include: love for computers and databases, working knowledge of Shelby or other database systems or a desire to learn, and attention to detail. Scheduling is flexible and can be designed around your availability. Please contact Nancy at nancy.harvey@secondpres.info.
