Learn the Word. Love the World. Seminar

The Bible is very mysterious book. Written over a 1200 year period in three different languages, it challenges us to understand its many dimensions. On January 30, the Learn the Word. Love the World. Seminar will answer questions about the Bible and offer tips on how to get the most out of reading it. The seminar will include an overview of the 7 Acts of the Bible that weave their way through Genesis to Revelation, and it will also offer different workshops for participants of any skill and comfort level.

The seminar will run from 8:30am-12pm , and you can sign up at the Welcome Center or by contacting Don Crittenden (828.6297 or don.crittenden@secondpres.info). Serving on Saturdays (1/23)
Serving on Saturdays will resume on January 23, and not only is it a great way to love the world, its a great way to meet new people and have fun. The day begins with a light breakfast at 8:30am, and a brief devotional thought to frame the day's work. After this, 2PC groups will travel to various sites for work projects. Participants may choose from any of the following activities:

  • Recycling for Families: sorting and stocking linens and kitchen items,minor repair of furniture, picking up and delivering furniture and cleaning.
  • Habitat Restore Center: painting, repairing donated items and other tasks as needed.
  • Pregnancy Resource Center: cleaning, painting and preparing mail.
  • Western Avenue Community Center: serving a lunch to children and families of the after school program, laying carpet and painting at the Lawrence Irvin Neighborhood Center (LINC).

Youth Pizza Fundraiser (1/17 and 1/24)
There will be a sign-up table for pizza sales outside the sanctuary after the 9am and 11am services on January 17 and 24. Pick up for all pizza orders will be Wednesday, February 24 at 7pm at 2PC. Everyone who placed pizza orders will be asked to pick up their pizza orders at 2PC that night.

2PC Annual Meeting (1/31)
There will be a congregational meeting on January 31 at 10:10am in Fellowship Hall to receive the annual report and vote on the pastors' terms of call. All members should be in attendance and all visitors are welcome.

Mission Trip to Sitka, Alaska, Informational Meeting (1/17 and 1/24)
Want to learn more about a work mission trip to Sitka, Alaska? If so, come to an informational meeting in Marquis Chapel at 10am on January 17. This meeting will be repeated on January 24th at 10am in Marquis Chapel. Our work projects will be determined by Sitka Presbyterian Church. Want to Help with the Upcoming Capital Campaign? (1/19)
2PC will host a dessert and discussion about the upcoming capital campaign and how you can help. God will be glad to use your specific gifts to help the campaign be a success, and what's more, he'll bless you even as you work to bless others. Merge (1/21)
Merge is 2PC's 20s/30s ministry, and every third Thursday of the month, you are invited to Rev. Dean and Andrea's house (609 E. Monroe, Bloomington) for dinner and discussion. Powerhouse Schedule

Jr. High WinterXtreme  (2/5-7)
Calling all jr. high students! It's time for the WinterXtreme Retreat in East Troy, WI. Students spend the weekend hanging out with friends, meeting new ones, and participating in awesome activities (tobogganing, tubing and karaoke, to name a few). Students also share in meaningful times of worship. Registration forms may be found at www.secondpres.info/2PC.YM and a $25 deposit is due by Jan. 21. Summer in January (1/24)
This is a preview event for all summer youth programming and the Group Sale. It will be 12:15pm in Grace Hall on January 24. All 6-12th grade students and parents should plan to attend.

Wanted

Hygiene Kits
Hygiene kits for students at the local alternative schools are needed for January, 2010. These donated kits were very much needed and warmly received last year. Please help fill this basic need again. Plastic bags with the lists of needed items are available in the South entry. If you have any questions, please contact Laurie Sprague at 275-8546 or Nancy Harvey at 287-8522. Thank you for your dedicated service.

Tech Volunteers
2PC is looking for several volunteers to help the Technical Arts Team on Sunday mornings. Duties include running slides that accompany both the 9am and 11am service. Volunteers interested must be available on their assigned Sundays from 7am-12pm. Please contact Pete at pete.davitt@secondpres.info or 828.6297 if you are interested.

Java Post Helpers for Sunday Mornings
We need people (junior high and up) to help make waffles for students on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15am. This includes helping to clean up the Java Post kitchen. Training will be provided. Please email josh.erickson@secondpres.info with questions or interest.
