1/31/10 “Name Change” (Sermon #1 from “A People for the King” series)  Texts:  Genesis 17:1-8, 15-16 (primary text); 2 Cor 5:16-19

In this passage, God changes Abraham and Sarah’s names as a sign of his covenant relationship with them.   It was an act of grace, not based on anything they’ve done, but based on who God is.  He chose them and their descendants, from among all the peoples of the world, to be his people, to bless them to be a blessing.  He also offers us the same gracious covenant, to be his people, today.
