Who Do You Say That I Am?

Mark 8:27-30

8/28/11 Sermon “Easy Questions…Hard Questions…” (Sermon #1 from “Who Do You Say That I Am?” sermon series)  Primary Text:  Mark 8:27-30; Secondary Text:  Deuteronomy 18:15-22

In this passage, Jesus begins with an easy, arms-length question for his disciples: who do other people say that I am? We might answer that question in all sorts of ways today: good teacher, comforter, etc. Then Jesus asks a much harder question: who do you say that I am? It’s no longer arms-length. The sermon concludes with a challenge to write out our own answer to the question, “Who do you say that I am?”
